Oxer Wines Kalamity Blanco 2023

Oxer Wines is an acclaimed Rioja winery founded by Oxer Bastegieta, who has been producing premium wines from some old vines in the Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta areas since 2009. Kalamity Blanco is a blend of six indigenous varieties. Viura is the predominant grape, with additions of Torrontés and small amounts of Calagraño, Malvasía, Maturana Blanca, and Garnacha Blanca. The grapes are sourced from old vineyards located at 600 meters above sea level on clay-limestone soils in Rioja Alavesa. After harvesting, selection, and whole-bunch pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and the finished wine ages for 10 months in French oak barrels. Production is very limited, just over 2,000 bottles. In the glass, the wine reveals an intense, brilliant color with golden highlights. Its aromatic profile is broad and fragrant, with notes of citrus and white fruit, followed by mineral notes. On the palate, it is fresh, elegant, and balanced, with a vibrant, refreshing acidity. The finish is medium-long and distinctly mineral. It pairs excellently with seafood, fish, or poultry in citrus sauces, as well as gourmet mixed salads.
