Quilmes is truly “Argentina’s Favourite Beer” with its international reputation constantly growing. The brewery was founded in 1890 in Buenos Aires by German immigrant Otto Bemberg. Though named after the area of the city where it was located, the Quilmes were originally a native tribe who lived in the surroundings of Tucumán. In the 17th century, after repeated attempts by the Spanish invaders to control their lands, they were defeated and forced to settle in a restricted colony (reducción) near Buenos Aires, 1000km away from their homeland. Quilmes is a classic lager, based on a Munich style Pilsener, that reflects its brewing heritage. It delivers rich textures and a refreshing light hoppy taste with a crisp, dry, thirst quenching finish. It is great lager to drink on its own but also makes a good food match with South American or Mediterranean cuisine. It also makes for a great partner with lightly spiced cuisine, rich egg dishes and all types of seafood.
