Product Description
Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. Located in Unterloiben in northeastern Austria, the Knoll winery is one of the best in the Wachau wine region. The vineyards of the estate are located between 260 and 350 meters above sea level, facing south, and are about 30 years old on average. The soil is composed of calcareous silt (loess) and rock-containing quartz (gneiss). The estate produces deep white wines that beautifully combine elegance, finesse, and aging potential and are a strong expression of their terroir. Made with Gruner Veltliner grapes sourced from the Ried Loibenberg vineyard, the wine is labeled as "Smaragd", a mention that designates a full-bodied and complex wine according to the denomination. The harvest is manual. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats and foudres for five to fifteen days. The finished wine is then aged for three months on the lees. The wine reveals a complex and deep aromatic profile with aromas of fresh herbs, white fruit, and mineral notes. On the palate, it is rich, intense, and round. It is a very classy wine, with refined flavors and a great aging potential. The finish is fresh and recalls saline notes. It goes very well with asparagus, all types of fish but also with veal.
