Product Description
ABOUT THE WINE. The 2022 Grillo Griari from Baiata Alagna is a refreshing and expressive white wine from Sicily, crafted from the indigenous Grillo grape. Founded in 1940 by Antonio Casano, Alagna is a family-owned winery based in Marsala, on Sicily’s western coast — a region with a rich winemaking tradition and deep vine-growing heritage. Today, the estate produces wines that reflect the island’s natural terroir, with a strong focus on native Sicilian varieties like Grillo.. TASTING NOTES. Straw yellow in colour, this Grillo white wine opens with bright aromas of citrus, wildflowers, and orange blossom. The palate is fresh and vibrant, showing excellent structure and minerality, with a subtle saline finish that makes it highly food-friendly. A beautifully balanced expression of modern Sicilian winemaking.. FOOD PAIRING. Perfect with seafood, especially octopus salad, citrus-glazed sea bass, or raw shellfish. For something more adventurous, try it with Busiate pasta with Trapani-style pesto, or serve alongside goat cheese crostini with peach, honey, and mint. Also great with grilled lemon chicken or cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto.. FRIARWOOD SAYS. Once used primarily in Marsala blends, Grillo has now come into its own — and wines like this one prove why. The 2022 Alagna Grillo Griari is crisp, balanced, and perfectly suited to Mediterranean cuisine. It’s a standout introduction to the new wave of Sicilian whites.
