Survivor Pinotage 2023

Enjoy now, or cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This 100% Pinotage wine is bursting with aromas of plum, red cherry, caramel and blackberry. A deep scarlet colour in the glass, the grapes were harvested from DB Rust’s farm in Constantia, an acclaimed South African wine-making region just outside of Cape Town. Survivor is a label from Overhex, a family-owned wine production company. For the last decade, Survivor has been spearheaded by Ben Snyman, a Cape native with experience in California, and importantly, a passionate chef. His love for wine grew alongside his love for food, which may explain why the Survivor range is so food-friendly and approachable. On the palate, this Pinotage is packed with savoury, umami notes - prune, cassis, black pepper, coffee, chocolate and cinnamon are all present, and supported by a solid vein of oak. The wine was aged in French oak barrels and underwent medium toasting. The deep red colour of the wine reflects the colour of the soils in Constantia, which adds rich, velvety texture to every glass. This is an excellent example of South Africa’s favourite grape. Pair it with pepper steak, barbecued meats, or a plate of mature Cheddar.
