Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Casa Vinicolă Luca is an ancient Moldovan family business with a long tradition and a troubled history. In 1949, much of the family was deported to Siberia and their assets confiscated by the Soviet regime. The winery was reopened in 2011 by Ion Luca, who today manages the 10.5 hectares of vineyards and produces award-winning wines from indigenous and international varieties. Made in very limited quantities (less than 2,500 bottles), Carpe Diem Merlot is a structured, complex, and elegant red. After manual selection and harvest, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, and the wine then ages in American oak barrels for a year. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep, brilliant color with dark ruby tones. Its aromatic profile is broad and lush, with notes of ripe red and dark fruits (cherry, plum, and blackberry) and hints of cocoa. On the palate, it is soft and rounded, smooth and concentrated. It has a medium to full body and a well-integrated acidity. The tannins are velvety, and the long finish evokes subtle chocolate notes. It's warm and elegant and pairs well with all grilled meats, lasagna Bolognese, and medium-aged cheeses.
