Product Description

Cellar for up to 4 years. Serve chilled. Spy Valley winery is situated just up the road from a secretive US listening post, and also happens to be one of Marlborough’s few boutique wineries still owned by the founding family. The Johnsons planted the first of their 380 acres here in 1993, pioneering winemaking on the terraced sunny southern slopes of the Lower Waihopai sub-region. Today the estate is especially known for its terroir-focused Sauvignon Blancs crafted by chief winemaker Peter Bourgeois and his talented team. This charming Sauvignon Blanc has an elegant flavour profile with plenty of ripe tropical fruit thanks to the top quality alluvial soils and low rainfall. The fruit is harvested early in the morning to preserve aromatics and freshness followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A portion of the wine is also fermented in used oak barrels to add extra complexity and a well-rounded, creamy texture. Attractive passionfruit, guava, mango and gooseberry notes dominate on the nose along with undertones of cut grass and dried herbs. On the palate there’s a bright streak of acidity which nicely balances the ripe tropical and stone fruit, culminating in a pure, clean finish that refreshes the palate.
