Cellar for 25 years or more. Decant for 2 hours before serving. Finca El Rapolao is an intriguing cherry red colour, with windows of black. The nose is packed with rich minerals and dark soil, and hints of coriander, tarragon and black pepper that lurk in the background. It is a Mencia-based blend from the Bierzo region of Spain, also containing portions of Alicante Bouschet and Sousón, a Portuguese grape used in the production of Port. Dominio de Anza is run by Diego Magana, the son of Spanish legend Raul Perez, who owns the famous Navarre winery Vina Magana. Dominio de Anza upholds the family legacy and then some, with a delicious, age-worthy range of distinctly Spanish red wines. El Rapolao is sourced from a single plot, just half a hectare in size - the vineyard is planted on red clay with extremely high iron content. On the palate, this is a strongly mineral wine, with bloody iron-rich notes, fascinating hints of red fruit, vegetation and considerable red spice. In terms of texture, it is lean and fresh, with fine velvety tannins. It is a different kind of red wine, packed with clay and salt - ideal for those looking to expand their horizons. Perfect for pairing with Manchego cheese, grilled meats or hearty stews.
