Product Description

Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. This Khikhvi wine is a stunning amber colour in the glass, with an intense nose of white peach, dried apricot, buckwheat honey and freshly picked orchard fruits. The Khikhvi grapes were harvested from the esteemed region of Kakheti, specifically from the microclimates of Napareuli, Tsinandali and Magraani. With an average vine age of 20-40 years, this wine balances a mature character with inherent freshness. Vine Ponto was founded in 2014 and is spearheaded by winemaker Giorgi Bakuradze. He emphasises preserving and enhancing traditional Georgian techniques, such as the clay qvevri pots that this wine was fermented in. The name Vine Ponto is also a reference to the country’s ancient winemaking history, reminding us of the fact that Georgia is the origin point for the practice of winemaking, as we know it today. The palate is tannic and full-bodied, with a pleasant oaky outline, gained from ageing in oak barrels. Most of Vine Ponto’s wines are aged in oak, after 6 months of fermentation in qvevri. In terms of flavour, you can discover delicious hints of pear, grapefruit and honey. The subtle sweetness is balanced out by a pleasant bitter aftertaste, similar to a cup of strong herbal tea. Khikhvi is perfect for pairing with soft cheeses, tender lamb, or poultry.
