Thompson and Morgan Broccoli Tenderette F1 Seed Packet

Broccoli 'Tenderette' F1 is a unique hybrid between broccoli and Chinese kale, producing masses of sweet, tender florets and stems with an intense but mild flavour. This hardy biennial variety yields 2 to 3 harvests over the course of one month, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking multiple crops from a single sowing. The tender shoots are delicious raw or cooked, perfect for salads, stir-fries, or steaming. Plants grow to approximately 80cm (31in) tall with a 60cm (24in) spread. Sow seeds indoors in modules or directly outdoors from March to June at a depth of 13mm (½), spacing seedlings 30cm (12) apart. Transplant seedlings when they have four to five leaves, planting 60cm (24) apart in rich, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Improve soil fertility with well-rotted farmyard manure before planting. Protect young plants with netting or fleece against pests. Water regularly to prevent drying out and hoe between plants to keep weeds down and expose insect larvae. Harvest shoots when they reach 15cm (6) before flowers open. Frequent picking encourages continuous shoot production. Leave larger leaves intact to protect developing shoots. Sprouting broccoli is suitable for freezing.
