Product Description

The Redcurrant ‘Laxton’s Number One’ is celebrated for its abundant yields of exceptional fruits, ripening into long, glossy strings throughout July and August. Their vibrant colour adds a touch of elegance to your garden, and their delicious flavour makes them irresistible, despite their small size. This variety is particularly praised for its outstanding resistance to mildew, guaranteeing more dependable harvests compared to other types. Flowering later in the season, ‘Laxton’s Number One’ skillfully avoids damage from late frosts. Redcurrants are incredibly versatile, perfect for a range of culinary creations from summer puddings and pies to jellies and even homemade wine.Redcurrant bushes naturally attract both pollinators and birds to your garden, while still ensuring you have plenty of fruit for you to enjoy. Newly planted bushes require regular watering during dry spells, while established plants seldom need additional water. For potted plants, it is important to prevent the compost from drying out.Regularly hoe or hand-weed around the base of the plant to keep the soil free from weeds. Redcurrant plants produce fruit on older wood, so prune them in winter by removing any diseased or very old branches. In early summer, prune new growth back to two buds to maintain a compact shape. Potted plants should be raised on pot feet to facilitate drainage and prevent root rot during the winter months.Position in a sunny or partially shaded area. It will reach a height and spread of up to 120cm (47in). Supplied as 1 x 3 litre pot. The images shown provide an indication of the expected results from mature plants; growing conditions can affect results. Images are for illustrative purposes and may vary due to seasonal changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
