Unicorn at Fountain Tapestry

This tapestry takes inspiration from a set of six wall hangings woven in the 15th century depicting the Unicorn hunt. This panel shows the Unicorn drinking amid other beasts at the fountain, with the hunter and dogs closing in. Note the`mille fleur' (thousand flowers) style, i.e. covered with tiny flowers, among which can be seen are pansies, ragged robin, violets, harebells, and other wild flowers. Gold, silk and fine wools were used in the weaving of the original. Woven in France for the family La Rochefoucauld which adorned their Chateau of Verteuil. The original series was sold for $ 1,100,000 dollars in 1923 to Mr J.D.Rockefeller and can now be seen in the Metropolitan Museum New York. This makes a great gift for a history lover who has a specific interest in the 15th century and mythical unicorns. To help a tapestry hang better we recommend using a dry iron on a 'Cotton' setting. Lightly iron the tapestry from the centre towards the edges [on the face]. In very extreme cases the Tapestry can be stretched by pulling the panel gently by hand, diagonally.
