Product Description

ABOUT THE WINE. In 1822, the vineyards of Château Grand-Poujeaux were divided into four estates, one of which would become Château Chasse-Spleen, a now-celebrated producer in Moulis-en-Médoc. The poetic and mysterious name has been linked to both Lord Byron and Charles Baudelaire, though its true origin remains unclear. Confiscated during World War I as enemy property, the estate was auctioned in 1922 and later acquired by its current owners in 1976. At the time, just 40 hectares of vines were under cultivation — a figure that has since doubled. With the guidance of renowned oenologist Émile Peynaud and significant investment in the cellar, Chasse-Spleen is now considered one of the most respected unclassified estates in Bordeaux.. TASTING NOTES. The 2015 vintage is a classic expression of Moulis, offering medium-bodied structure with firm, ripe tannins. Notes of blackberry, cassis, and dark cherry are layered with spice, graphite, and earthy undertones. The oak is well-integrated, supporting a long, balanced finish with refined power.. FOOD PAIRING. An excellent match for classic red meat dishes such as grilled ribeye, beef stew, barbecued lamb, or duck breast. Also pairs well with aged hard cheeses.. FRIARWOOD SAYS. Drinking beautifully now, the 2015 Chasse-Spleen will continue to evolve gracefully through to 2035. A brilliant vintage that reflects both pedigree and precision.
