Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2014, Saint-Estèphe

One of Bordeaux’s most esteemed producers, Cos d’Estournel has been turning heads since it was founded by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel in 1791. As of 2000, it’s been owned by the entrepreneur Michel Reybier, who sets a demanding agenda marrying top quality with risk-taking and innovation. The terroir is, as you might imagine, exceptional. Set across two hillsides and a central plateau, the vineyards benefit from gravel and clay soils and a maritime climate that brings natural ventilation. This 2014 vintage is intensely aromatic, with notes of blackberry, graphite, tobacco and mint shining through. Medium bodied, graceful and with a long, elegant finish, it’s a classic match for lamb.
