How Bokashi Composting Works Bokashi composting uses bran activated with beneficial microorganisms to ferment food waste in an airtight environment. Add cooked or uncooked food scraps to the bucket. Sprinkle Bokashi bran over each layer. Press down firmly to remove air pockets. Keep the lid tightly sealed using the triple lock system. Drain liquid regularly using the stainless steel ball valve tap. Once full, leave sealed for 2 to 3 weeks to complete fermentation. The fermented material can then be dug into soil, layered into a compost heap or added to a wormery.
