Hardier than French lavenders, English Blue Lavender offers a robust and reliable option for your garden.For initial planting, use free-draining compost in pots and keep in frost-free conditions until plants are large enough for outdoor planting. Acclimatise the English lavender plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days, then plant in free-draining soil in full sun. Lavenders thrive in well-drained conditions, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil by adding coarse grit or sharp sand before planting. When planting English lavender in large patio containers, use a well-drained soil-based compost.Pruning after planting will encourage bushy growth. Water regularly throughout the summer until the lavender plants are fully established; once established, they are reasonably drought-tolerant.
