Crestfallen

WELTESSER's latest effort, "Crestfallen," is a swirling, cacophonous mess of a record that is equal parts genius and confusion. The band clearly drew inspiration from a wide range of genres, blending black metal, shoegaze, and even a hint of jazz into a melting pot of sonic experimentation. On tracks like "Echoes of Despair" and "Doomed to Darkness," WELTESSER showcases their ability to create dense, atmospheric soundscapes that are both haunting and mesmerizing. The juxtaposition of blistering guitar riffs and ethereal vocals creates a sense of unease that is hard to shake. However, where "Crestfallen" falls short is in its lack of cohesiveness. The album feels like a jumbled mess of ideas that never quite come together to form a coherent whole. It's as if WELTESSER threw everything at the wall to see what would stick, but ended up with a lot of clutter instead. That being said, there are moments of brilliance scattered throughout the record. The haunting melodies of "Isolation" and the frenetic energy of "Fallen Angels" show glimpses of the band's potential. With a bit more focus and refinement, WELTESSER could truly shine. In the end, "Crestfallen" is a bold and ambitious effort from WELTESSER that falls short of greatness. While the band's willingness to experiment is commendable, they could benefit from a more focused approach in their future endeavours.
