However, it's important to recognize the signs that it's time for replacement: Wear: Over time, all grips become thinner, especially where your hands exert the most pressure. If you start to feel the handlebars underneath more than usual, it's time for a new set. Loss of traction: Grips are designed to provide a secure grip for your hands. Over time, the surface patterns or textures can wear off, causing your hands to slip, especially when wet.
