Firstly, they allow you to fit bigger discs and pads. More surface area means better braking and spreads the heat of braking out over a much bigger surface area. Brembo use aluminium calipers. Aluminium is a very rigid metal, and on many applications, the caliper is a monoblock for even more rigidity.
