If you get the oil hot enough, it starts to lose its lubricating properties which can add significant wear to an engine.A popular cooling upgrade for cars getting worked very hard is a separate oil cooler.This works a lot like a radiator, passing the oil through its own cooling core on its way back to the engine.This can yield significant reductions in oil temperature with drops of up to 34 degrees C possible on some kits.
