Welcome to Yorkshire

|Something really interesting is happening in Sheffield. The city centre is changing, with more and more people choosing to live right where the action is. And as the number of residents grows, the city needs to keep up. That's where New Era Square comes in. This modern spot just off London Road is becoming a complete little neighbourhood in its own right. It's already got amazing food and cool places to live, but now it's adding something super important: a brand new NHS medical centre and a premium skin care clinic, making it a place where people can live well.

A doctor's surgery, but not as you know it
It's not every day that a brand-new doctor's surgery opens up in the middle of a bustling food and shopping district. But that's exactly what has happened. Steel City General Practice has moved from its old place on Shoreham Street into a shiny, new, and much bigger home right in New Era Square. This isn't just a small move; the new facility is more than double the size of the old one. This big step was made possible with some help from Sheffield City Council, recognising how important these services are for the growing community. So, what's inside? The new City General Practice boasts some impressive facilities:
- Five modern consulting rooms
- One dedicated treatment room
- A special suite for minor surgery
These new services are designed to support everyone, especially the many students and young families moving into the Sheffield city centre. And to make life a bit easier, the practice will also offer some Saturday clinics and stay open late one Monday evening each month. Finding an appointment that fits around work or uni just got a little less tricky.
More than just bricks and mortar
Building a place like New Era Square was never just about the buildings. The vision was always to create a real, living community. The arrival of the GP practice and another new business, Neo Skin Clinic, shows this vision is coming to life. It's creating a place where you can find everything you need to live well, from a check-up to a fantastic meal. The whole development is part of Sheffield's bigger story of change and growth. Josie Matthews, the Practice Business Manager at Steel City General Practice, shared her thoughts on the move.
"This move allows us to expand our services and better meet the needs of our patients. The facilities at New Era Square give us room to grow and improve how we deliver care to the community."
Jerry Cheung, the Managing Director at New Era Development, also commented on what this means for the area.
"New Era was always about building a community, not just buildings. The arrival of the GP and Neo Skin Clinic shows we're creating a place where people can live well, eat well, and access services that matter. We are proud to be part of Sheffield's changing story."
Looking after your skin and more
Alongside the GP, another health-focused business is opening its doors. Neo Skin Clinic is a new destination for personalised skin care. It offers non-invasive treatments, which means no surgery is involved. It's designed to be a trusted and accessible clinic for both locals and the student population in Sheffield, providing professional services in a convenient central location.
But the services at New Era Square don't stop there. The square is a proper hub of activity.
There's the huge KH Oriental Supermarket, Baby Bump Sheffield for expectant parents, UKEC Sheffield for educational consulting, and Xing Xing Salon for a fresh new haircut. The range of services available makes it a one-stop-shop for many daily needs for the people of Sheffield.
A food lover's paradise in the city centre
New Era Square has quickly earned a reputation as one of the best places to eat in the whole city. If you're a fan of authentic flavours and independent restaurants, this is the place to be. The variety is huge, from fancy meals to quick and tasty street food bites. The digital infrastructure here is also solid, with high-speed internet that's as secure as any https connection for those who want to work from a café. Here's a taste of what's on offer:
- OISOI Bar and Restaurant: For high-end, authentic dishes.
- Panenka Bar and Grill: A great spot to watch a match with a pint and a burger.
- A Journey to Chengdu: Serving up spicy and flavourful Sichuan cuisine.
- Shoyu Korean Restaurant: For delicious Korean BBQ and more.
- Yum Yum Bites & Poundbaozi: Perfect for quick, tasty street food.
And if it's cocktails you're after, Selena Cocktail Bar and Kitchen and LYKKE Sheffield are popular spots to relax with a drink. This place has a real creative drive.
A place to live and work
Beyond the shops and restaurants, New Era Square is also a place to call home. New Era Living offers stylish student accommodation, with a choice of private studios or shared flats. It's even pet-friendly, which is a big bonus. The accommodation includes all bills, superfast internet, and on-site support, making student life that bit simpler. A shuttle service to the university campuses has made it a top choice for both UK and international students. The square is also attracting businesses. Creative and tech companies like Counter Context and Unihomes have set up their offices here, drawn by the modern spaces and central location. This adds to the dynamic community, creating a place where people live, work, socialise, and now, access healthcare services.
What's next on the drive to improve?
And it seems New Era Square isn't done growing yet. The next exciting addition will be Fringe Golf! It's going to be a state-of-the-art indoor golf clubhouse. Using top-tier Trackman simulator technology, people can practice their swing, take lessons from PGA professionals, or just play a round with friends, whatever the weather. And, of course, it will also have its own award-winning food and drink offering. It sounds like another brilliant reason to visit the square, whether you're a seasoned golfer or a complete beginner. The city of Sheffield is certainly looking forward to it.
