Welcome to Yorkshire
News • July 28th, 2025
|Picture this. You’ve had an absolutely brilliant day out. The kids are knackered but happy, you’re buzzing from trying something new, and everyone’s covered in a light dusting of mud and doughnut sugar. But now comes the worst part… the long, sleepy drive home.
The arguments over the radio, the inevitable "Are we nearly there yet?" from the back seat. What if you could just skip all that? What if you could turn that amazing day into an amazing mini-break? Well, you can. The North Yorkshire Water Park has just launched something that’s a total game-changer for anyone who loves a good adventure: on-site camping pods. This means you can now stay right where the action is, making your visit a proper staycation.

So, what are these new camping pods all about?
Right, let's get into it. Forget wrestling with a damp tent and lost poles in the dark. These are proper, solid little wooden pods. Think of it as camping’s much cooler, more comfortable cousin. The park has just put in ten of these brand-new accommodation options, and they’re designed to be super flexible. There are different sizes, so whether it's just the two of you on a romantic getaway or you're bringing the whole gang (the biggest pods sleep up to six guests), you’re sorted. It’s the perfect middle ground – you get all the fun of being in the great outdoors, but with the comfort and convenience of a solid roof over your head and a proper bed. It’s a fantastic way to extend the fun and turn a brilliant day into a full-on holiday experience without the faff of traditional camping. These pods are all about providing comfort and a brilliant base for your adventure.
What’s included with your stay?
This is the best bit. It’s all about making your stay easy. Each pod is more than just a wooden shell. You’ve got practical stuff that makes a massive difference, especially if you’re with the family. When you book one of these camping pods, you get:
- Electricity and lighting inside your pod. (So you can actually charge your phone!)
- A secure, lockable door, meaning you can head off for a day of activities and not worry about your stuff.
- Access to on-site facilities like proper showers and bathrooms. No spooky midnight trips to a dodgy toilet block!
- Drinking water on tap.
- A dedicated parking spot, so no lugging your bags for miles.
And just outside the pods, there’s a massive grassy space. It’s practically begging for a game of rounders or a chilled-out evening BBQ. It’s this level of convenience that really makes it feel like a proper break, giving you a comfortable place to stay right next to the park's massive lake.
Okay, I’m sold on the pods, but what is there to do?
Where to even begin? The brilliant thing about staying on-site is that all the activities are literally on your doorstep. You can wake up, have your breakfast with a view of the water, and be straight into the action. If you’re a fan of water sports, you’re in heaven. The park is famous for its massive inflatable AquaPark, which now includes both the Warrior and Wipeout courses for double the slipping, sliding and splashing fun. For the little ones, there's a new Unicorn Splash Park. And that's before you even get to the other water-based fun like wakeboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking, and open water swimming. There’s a huge range of activities for every skill level. But the adventure doesn’t stop at the water's edge. If you prefer to stay on dry land, you can get stuck into:
- Laser Tag
- Axe Throwing (surprisingly satisfying!)
- Archery
- Ziplining
- Low Ropes
- Bushcraft skills
Honestly, you could stay for a long weekend and still not get through everything. It’s the ultimate outdoor playground.
What about when you get hungry?
All that adventure is going to make you hungry. While you can definitely bring your own food for a BBQ, the on-site Café @ NYWP is there to sort you out. It’s got amazing views across the main lake, so you can watch the wakeboarders while you have your lunch. They serve up all sorts, from big hot meals to refuel after a session on the water to lighter bites, vegan options, and plenty of treats for the kids. The café is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.
Turning a day out into a proper holiday
This is what it’s all about, really. Having this new accommodation completely changes the feel of the place. It’s no longer just a day trip destination; it's a genuine UK staycation spot. You can take things at a slower pace, really relax, and not feel like you have to cram everything into a few hours before a long journey home. The team at the park are clearly chuffed about it. Gareth Davies, who’s the Operations Manager at North Yorkshire Water Park, said:
“We’re thrilled to introduce these new accommodation options that put guests right in the heart of the action, just metres from all the fun. It’s never been easier to turn a day out into a full weekend of adventure, with everything you need for a fun and comfortable stay in one place.”
And he’s spot on. Having your own pod as a base for your adventure makes everything so much easier and more relaxed.
How much does it cost and how do I book?
You’re probably thinking this is going to cost a fortune, right? Actually, it’s surprisingly affordable. Prices for the camping pods start from just £40 per night (with a two-night minimum stay). When you think about what you’d pay for a hotel room for a family, it’s a brilliant deal. It makes a fun-packed outdoor break accessible for more people. Booking is dead simple, too – you just need to head over to their listing on Airbnb to check availability and secure your spot. It’s a fantastic, memorable way to enjoy the great outdoors without breaking the bank.
A little bit of background on the park
Just in case you didn't know, the North Yorkshire Water Park is located near Wykeham, just a few miles from Scarborough. It didn't start out as the massive adventure hub it is today. It originally had a few specialist fishing lakes and one huge 80-acre lake that was used by local clubs for sailing and windsurfing. The park as we know it now, with all its awesome activities, was launched back in July 2017 with the first AquaPark. Since then, it’s just grown and grown. In 2021, they did a massive expansion, adding things like the wakeboarding lines and building the big new café. It’s just brilliant to see them add these accommodation pods, making the park a complete destination for anyone who loves water, the outdoors, and a bit of adventure.
