A beautiful place to visit, feels like you've left the busy city behind. Very peaceful. Loved seeing the climbers attempt their climbs.
We went here as we'd had always seen it on the X84 bus going home , we went on a week day in July it wasn't as busy has we had first thought still people there , the place itself is great little find we walked through the village to get to it lovely and peaceful we then found a style and climbed over it and walked up the path leading straight to it beautiful views all around it , windy though lots of cows and sheep in the fields surrounding it so if you take dogs keep them on the leash at all times the rocks themselves are massive easy to walk on but you still have to watch where you put your feet all in all a great place and will be doing a return visit .
I went with the dog and the wife to try my hand at astrophotography while Comet Lemmon was gracing our skies. Keen not to miss it for the next millennia and a bit, we stayed up until 4am to catch a break in thick cloud. We walked up to Almscliffe Crag in near complete darkness due to a faulty head torch that strobed for a few seconds before switching off. Fortunately, having our scent hound's lead straped to my rucksack waistband meant there was no chance of being lead astray while she frantically zigzagged her way up the crag. After only 2 or 3 near death experiences we managed to set up our cameras at the top of the crag. Sat watching the stars together on a 3inch camera screen was actually quite romantic, once we had managed to zone out our dogs non stop whining for an hour. Beautiful views for yonks in all directions. It was all worth it in the end though. We got no photos of the comet, a handful of blurry photos of constellations and a maccies breakfast on the way home. Would recommend going in the day time when all the sweaty fingered rock goblins are there instead. 5 stars.
Lovely place. Combined with a tender sun shine and a strong wind, it was a short but memorable trip. Take your time and enjoy the view. Btw, rock climbing is one of the reasons people go there.
Nice place to visit, short walk but good. Easy access to the Crags from the roadside. Path can be muddy after wet weather and gets windy at the top. No facilities nearby, so take what you need.
