Lovely station. Acessable toilet, lots of entertainment for train enthusiasts as the trains pass very often.
This was a superb station for both arrival and departure, with large platforms for the busy train routes! The station is surrounded by greenery, design has a nice cosy feel and the signs are well maintained. Departure boards are up to date, station is accessible and cleanliness was clear!
I really like this station, and am glad it is my local one. While Darlington offers more train services, Northallerton does OK for stopping trains, and the benefits of having a carpark and taxi rank that's easy to get in and out of both from the road and off the train is great. The other thing I like is how caring the staff are. As a father of an Autistic son, I spent a lot of my time at stations watching trains. Northallerton is a great spot, because you get a lot of trains going through at full speed. Whenever we've wandered to the end of the platform, so away from where people normally are, a member of staff always comes over to check we're alright. The speed of the trains while enjoyable for my train spotting son, is also attractive to people suffering with their mental health, and I appreciate the staff who are aware of the risk, and look out for people.

My son has just turned 18 and was travelling alone on a journey he had never done for the first time and became stranded in Northallerton. His connecting train had already departed once his train got in. He called me, very nervous, anxious and unsure of what to do. I told him to speak to the information desk. Can I just say, what a wonderful help they were. They sorted onwards travel out immediately and gave him the confidence to travel alone. Well done to the team!
