Great market right in the centre of town. Great place to pick up some awesome cheese, delicious chutneys and beautiful local honey.

Enjoyed browsing around this bustling Saturday market (there's also a smaller market here on Wednesdays). Lots of food stalls, including some good quality fruit and veg, cheese, confectionery and a van where you could get oak smoked fish and seafood. There were also flowers and plants, some nice clothing and crafts. Very friendly people, especially the lady who helped me with directions to the Castle Walk! The cobbled marketplace is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, including the Town Hall, the Victorian Market Hall, and the 12th century Holy Trinity Church which is now a museum dedicated to the Green Howards Yorkshire Regiment. Plenty of shops and cafes around the square too. There's free parking (short stay up to 2 hours), and some decent toilets inside the Market Hall.

Outdoor Not open even though the Web site says it is on a wendsday. And the indoor market three quarters empty and the stalls that are there are selling the usual Chinese imported junk and poor laser engraved tatt, not worth the hassle of trying to find one of the three available disabled parking slots in the whole town. And being Yorkshire and a wendsday everything closes in the afternoon, I live in Yorkshire and this not opening Mondays and half day wendsday is a joke, I'm a local buiseness owner in pontifract and am amazed at this archaic practice. I'm sure it's great if you catch it on the odd day when things are open. And a note to the council given the average age of the visitors a few more disabled parking spaces would be nice. It took me forty minutes to struggle to the closed outdoor market! Not impressed come on Yorkshire we can do better than this.

Well it was busy and I mean rammed but we did visit at Easter ! Situated in the Market Place its on a big slope but there are lots of resting places either in/out door cafes and pubs. It's a decent Market with plenty of stalls or the Castle just off the Market Place is another attraction. Plan ahead on occasions like Easter because the car parks get full. I parked in the Fosse car park (see photo) Note from here its a steep walk up to the Market Place. Overall a beautiful place to visit and there are plenty of individual shops just off the Market too.
