Knaresborough is a lovely place to visit; it’s just a short ride on the train from York and the beautifully presented station gives a great first impression. There’s lots to see in Knaresborough but make sure that you have sensible shoes because the town is at the top, the station is half way down and the river is at the bottom of a very steep hill. Stay at the top for the Castle, Market Place and High Street but you’ll need to go down for the best views of the river and the viaduct. Although I didn’t visit today the Bebra Gardens are really lovely and offer great views. If you enjoy a good walk head out to the Watermill Cafe which can be reached by the exclusive Abbey Road on a flattish route or out from the High Street going downhill. Lots of places to eat and drink together with a few icecream vans. A good day out!

We had a wonderful experience in Knaresborough, May 24, 2025. On our return trip to York, there were vendors selling antiques, and that was fun.

Knaresborough is a very interesting and picturesque market town well worth a visit from York or Leeds. Sadly the station, while well maintained and supported by volunteers is short of facilities. No toilets. No waiting room. No coffee shop. There's and excellent bar but it has limited opening hours. A few on street car parks with limited duration.

Knaresborough is one of my favourite town and its lil station is quite charming. Old Grade II listed station building gives you a view of Victorian times. Its simple two platform station run by Northern trains. Service is good and regular. Its a lovely little market picturesque town. A lot of walks in wood land, bluebells and riverside. Worth to visit this town by train to enjoy the stunning views which you can’t see on road trip.

Lovely riverside town - with much historical interest (small castle, many old - medieval & rustic 18th century etc.). Nice walks along the river too. Admittedly did not bother with Moth Shipton's Cave - looked overly 'touristy' and tacky from outside, though obviously big pull to others. We just found it a interesting place to stay a couple of days and explore.
