My wife and I ate at Joo Mak Korean Kitchen & Pub one Saturday afternoon in January 2026. We had taken a liking to Korean food during a trip to Jeju and Seoul the previous year, and had passed Joo Mak several times while visiting the impressive Oseyo Korean supermarket nearby on The Moor. The restaurant was brightly lit with neon signage, but fairly quiet at the time of our visit. It was early January and pretty much everywhere was quiet that day. A friendly member of staff showed us to a table and we spied the large, tempting-looking dishes of food on the tables of the few other diners. As we perused the menu, a waitress brought us a dish of Kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage) which I happily munched on (but was far too spicy for my wife’s tastes). I had intended to have a glass of Makgeolli (Korean rice wine) - a drink that I never tried during our visit to Korea. They offer several varieties…but, alas, only in 750ml bottles. Instead, we both opted for cups of Roasted Brown Rice Korean Tea which, despite its rather bland appearance, was very tasty and enjoyable. The menu is pretty extensive, featuring a selection of Korean Fried Chicken options, as well as soups, ramen, seafood dishes and popular Korean dishes such as Tteokbokki, Bibimbap, Beef Bulgogi and Japchae. I opted for the Jjamppong - a spicy, seafood ramen soup. The portion was large; a big bowl of soup with four large prawns, half a dozen mussels and a similar number of calamari rings. The soup was deliciously, lip-tinglingly, sweat-inducingly, spicy with fiery red chilli flakes, kimchi and various vegetables. Filled with a generous portion of thin noodles and topped with a fried egg. I really enjoyed it (I love spicy food) and thought it was very good value for money at £10.80. My wife ordered the Tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes in sauce). She knew from experience that the standard version would be too spicy for her, so she ordered the “Creamy Rose” version in the hope that it would be milder. It sounded like it would be and the waitress gave the impression that it would be when we enquired. Alas, it was pretty much standard Tteokbokki topped with melted cheese, so my wife struggled with the level of spice in the dish (for reference, my wife struggles with anything spicier than a Korma or Butter Chicken dish at an Indian restaurant). I was full after my Jjamppong, but made an effort to eat some of the Tteokbokki and it was very nice and somewhat less spicy than the Jjamppong. We also shared a portion of Korean Seaweed & Vermicelli Rolls; six lightly battered rolls tightly filled with seaweed and thin noodles and served with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Joo Mak. Portions were large and prices were very competitive compared to similar establishments in the city. We’d certainly return again in future, but my wife would be careful to pick something more suited to her (non-spicy) tastes next time.
Delicious bimbibap, one beef and one chicken. Chicken popcorn was great for the kids. Excellent portion size, good value for money. Dumplings were also very nice. Restaurant was fun inside with neon and crazy mirrored wall. Staff were very friendly.
As a new opened restaurant, it is so clean and tidy up place. Decoration is nice and spacious! Staffs are friendly and efficient! However, food which I ordered were not really authentic Korean taste! The kimchi pancake was so plain and dried! The hot pot charged 25£ but it so big pot and full-filled topping, it was so nice! I also were impressed by their big portions, food were not pricey at all, that may be the reason why they are busy and I could see people were happy with that. Next time if I visit Sheffield again, absolutely be back.
A Wonderful Find... We were thrilled to discover this gem. The dumplings and beef bibimbap were absolutely delicious - easily on par with the meals we enjoyed during our time in South Korea. We were also excited to find Milkis, our favourite Korean soft drink, on the menu! The restaurant is beautifully decorated with an authentic feel, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The waiter was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning on our next visit to Sheffield.
This new Korean restaurant did not disappoint. Its interior is modern and trendy with its waterfall feature upon entry. We were immediately greeted and seated. Portion sizes were extremely generous, unlike other Korean restaurants in Sheffield. As a result, we ordered too much. However, that was not an issue as we were provided with takeaway containers. Everything we ordered was delicious. We are looking forward to visiting again to try other delicious dishes. There is also a bar, and alcoholic beverages are served. *Update* On my visit on the 12th July 2025 around 7pm the food was not up to the usual standard. The japchae was very oily and had more onions than noodles. The flavour also wasn't there. The kimchi pancakes were very thick and doughy. Again, it was not up to the usual standards. These are 2 of my favourite dishes, so I was disappointed. For this reason, I'm deducting a star overall for lack of consistency and 2 stars for the food. Obviously, if things are better on my next visit, it will be adjusted again to reflect that.
