Excellent stay again at the Best Western in Sheffield. Staff are great, very friendly and always helpful. Rooms are spacious and whilst might benefit from some refurbishment, perfectly functional and always clean. Very good location for every Sheffield. Have stayed here weekly for the past three months. Will be back again in the new year.
I checked in on Monday 6th and checked out today Friday 10th October after being contracted to work on the building. The new manager Jo is absolutely amazing at her job and is such a lovely person, who is trying her hardest to make changes to the hotel and bring it up to a higher standard. I generally only sleep around 3 hours maximum per night but during my stay here I slept more than I have in around 15 years. The breakfast, both cooked and continental were lovely and the choice was brilliant! The night time food was amazing too and the chefs really can cook. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, the bedding was immaculately clean, the rooms were spotless and the tea and coffee facilities were brilliant (The Decaf Yorkshire Tea is spot on when you want a nighttime brew in bed). I’ll be returning and staying again next month for my Birthday weekend and I’m really looking forward to it. Can’t fault my experience/stay and I’m very hard to please. Thankyou Jo (or as I kept calling her “Mel”) and the rest of the team, you’re doing an amazing job.
I am not usually one to complain but this hotel was very disappointing and I would not recommend staying here!! Firstly, I stayed here a few years ago when it was an OYO Hotel (it was a cheap stay - fine). It has since been changed to 'BestWestern Sheffield City Centre' - awful. Reception/Check in was fine, slight wait but polite staff, no issues. Into the room, initially greeted with a stale smell, rooms haven't seen a paint brush in years, bed was large and comfy ironing board and iron was useful though, fine, I can move on from the lack of decorating. Into the bathroom... The ceiling had very large patches of yellow/water staining, all dated units/bathroom suite and poor toiletry offering (a bar of soap) and some cheap showergel. (Fine - I can put up with this, like I said, I rarely complain and we were only using it as a base). Location wise, good, walking distance into town or short cheap taxi fare. Slept well (after a few beers). Onto the breakfast.... Here's where I decided to complain. After a cold shower (as there was no hot water) we headed down for breakfast and If there's one thing I love is a good breakfast. Staff friendly, little electric heaters in the restaurant to try and keep the room warm. The food - options wise fine, the quality - poor!! I opted to play it safe and have a yoghurt, banana and then I risked a sausage sandwich.... On cutting the sausages open the smell was enough to turn anyone's stomach but I proceeded to compose my sandwich... The taste test, one word - rancid! I would go as far to say that it would be something you'd feed your dog if you didn't like your pet! To conclude, best western has hugely lost my respect, the prices these places charge vs the service and accommodation they provide is disgusting! Extremely disappointed 😞.
The reception was cold and unwelcoming, with no provisions to warm children's food. The kitchen staff were exceedingly rude and utterly unprofessional. Despite clearly explaining that my daughter has multiple severe food allergies and that we always carry her food, which requires heating, the kitchen staff refused to accommodate our request. There was no microwave provided, leaving us with no option to warm her food. To make matters worse, we were issued a parking ticket for parking in the reception area while we were checking in. I had to challenge the unjustified fine. It is crucial that senior management urgently address and rectify these issues to prevent further guests from experiencing similar frustration and dissatisfaction.
Felt like we had gone back to the 60s with the decor, patchy paint on walls and could see where damage had been repaired, pieces off wood just screwed to the inside of the wardrobe which smelt awful inside. Water pressure was horrendous took ages to get a shower, shower head had black mould on it and also black on the tiles around the bath. Coffee making facilities were poor and milk tasted off. Over all will not stay here again very disappointed 😕
