Fairly calm river coming down and under the packhorse bridge (which is very narrow to drive over, just a few inches either side). After the bridge it speeds up to a small rapid before going over three bigger falls and gets very noisy. Great for photos and close to the road.

Second time visited today. Was hoping to catch a glimpse of Salmons but there were none. A local dog walker informed us that water level in the river was too low at the moment. And so October end and November more likely to be conducive to see jumping Salmon. The satnav led us straight here and we missed the pay and display parking closeby. And as we got to the bridge, there was little space to turnaround our Estima. So, I managed to cautiously maneuver through the bridge to the other side... Don't try this unless you are very confident driving through very tight spaces or you have a guide to help you drive through. On the other side of the bridge are a couple of parking spots which is where we parked and with hardly any cars around, we were ok for the duration of our trip. The terrain is a mix of mud, grass and rocks and can be very slippery especially during wetter conditions, like today. Grippy boots recommended. Was an early morning visit, so we did not see any swimmers. We did meet a Duke of Edinburgh group walking the riverside trail. Stainforth Foss itself is just an amazing sight to behold. Last time, we were able to catch some small fish from the little pot holes by the river and released them back, which the kids enjoyed. The weather was too wet today to stick around for long though. Happy that I got this done while this short stay in the Dales.

A beautiful spot for the sound of running water, and to soak up the peace and beauty of the surroundings. There is a pay and display car park just off the main road. Do not follow your sat nav as it will take you down a steep narrow road and over an even more narrow bridge. The car park has a clearly signposted footpath and is only 15 minutes walk from the falls.

We just went here in the hope of seeing salmon leaping up the waterfalls, I didn't see any but hubby did, and so did photographers that were there.im glad we went when we did cause it wasn't overcrowded and just by a bit of good luck we managed to get a parking spot right next to the bridge so for me it was alit easier to get across, not easy with a walker it's not even ground but I was determined to see it. It's the river Ribble and pretty spectacular in full flow.
