Ever wished you could get all your favourite local treats in one go, and maybe even get a bit of a discount? Well, you’re in luck. A brilliant idea that started a few years back is returning, bigger and better than ever. The team at a family farm in Thixendale has brought together a massive group of local food and drink makers for the sixth EAT Yorkshire promotion. It's a fantastic chance for people to discover and support some of the best independent businesses in the county, all while saving a bit of cash. This fantastic initiative, spearheaded by Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, connects businesses directly with their customers for a month-long celebration of all things delicious.

So, what’s the story behind EAT Yorkshire?

It all kicked off during the lockdowns. Remember that? When popping to the shops was a major event and everyone was looking for ways to support local businesses that were struggling. Jennie Palmer from Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil had the great idea of connecting with other local producers to help everyone out. The plan was simple: team up, offer customers a discount, and make it easier for people to shop local from their sofas. What started as a clever way to navigate a tricky time has blossomed into an annual event that foodies across the county look forward to. The EAT Yorkshire initiative is now in its sixth year, proving that the appetite for high-quality, local food is stronger than ever. It's a true celebration of community spirit, bringing together a diverse range of producers for the benefit of their customers.

The business at the centre of it all, Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, has a lovely story of its own. Established back in 2008 by Adam and Jennie Palmer, the business operates right from their family farm in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. They produce a whole range of oils, dressings, and mayonnaise using rapeseed grown right there on their farm and others nearby. Everything is pressed, blended, bottled, and labelled on-site, which is about as local as it gets. It’s this deep connection to the land and local community that makes them the perfect champions for the EAT Yorkshire promotion.

Who's taking part in the big event?

This year, the EAT Yorkshire campaign is the biggest it's ever been, with a whopping 32 producers on board. That includes eight new producers joining the fun for the first time, offering everything from coffee and kombucha to charcuterie. It’s a proper showcase of the incredible variety of food and drink that comes out of our county.

Jennie Palmer shared her excitement about the growing collaboration: “We’re delighted to welcome eight new producers as we celebrate our sixth EAT Yorkshire campaign that showcases some of Yorkshire’s finest producers. What started off as a way of connecting businesses and consumers during lockdown has turned into an annual celebration of local food and drink. We now have 32 producers on board, including newcomers Dunesford, Gordon Rhodes, Aagrah foods, Cridling kombucha, Wildman charcuterie, Roost coffee, Norse coffee liqueur and Yorkshire Mushroom Emporium. This is the biggest number of producers since we started, so we’re very pleased. Each business will offer a 10% discount on online orders from 1st to 31st March.”
