Friendly and polite, but they stated "Both rear brake pads require replacement" on the MOT invoice when it was not needed. A Honda health check a month later had the same brake pads at only 10% worn, which seems far more likely given the mileage and having regenerative braking. They contacted me about an earlier version of this review, that also mentioned this discrepancy. They invited me to bring the car back so they could explain it further. Their explanation came down to: - Assessing brake pad wear during an MOT (when you can't remove the wheels) is an educated guess by generalists, and Honda (who also didn't remove the wheels) have more expertise. Hoyles were also not aware of the extent to which regenerative braking affects wear. (This is a shame since I picked them largely because they advertised their EV expertise.) - In the MOT, they want to err on the side of caution. - There was a miscommunication where the office issuing the invoice said "brake pads require replacement" which is not what the MOT tester intended with their advisory about them wearing thin. If I had taken them up on it and they had found they didn't need replacing, they say they would have said as much. They have been unfailingly polite, and I hope their explanations can all be taken at face value. The rating reflects their willingness to resolve this, balanced against the poor experience of being told by experts that work is required when it very likely was not.
