Description
Discover Fair trader
Fair Trader is a community co-operative, part of the international co-operative movement. It is made up of our members, our customers, our suppliers, our producers and other institutions co-operating to support the development of fair and ethical trading.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we are driven solely by our purpose to:
/partner smaller and sustainable suppliers, particularly co-operatives, and thereby help disadvantaged communities.
/Provide customers with a diverse and contemporary range of fairly traded, relevant and ethical products, which have been assessed in terms of their sustainability.
/Support the enterprise and initiatives of other fair trade organisations, co-operatives, schools, and community groups
Discover the story behind each one of our products
Each product and supplier is assessed by the members and rated (5 is best!) to make sure it has a positive social and economic impact, is environmentally sound and is produced in a transparent way. Producers include small co-operatives from Afghanistan, Bolivia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Nepal, Palestine and many other countries.
Buying fairly traded products means that children and families around the world get a better deal. We also have some local products that have a positive impact on our own community.
Discover a world of beautiful products
At Fair Trader our philosophy is that you don’t have to compromise on design, function or taste to be ethical.
Food+Drink
Organic Fairtrade wines from Africa and South America, Malawian Kilombero rice, a huge range of chocolate and coffee, and local organic cider produced by local wind power from local apples are just some of the products we offer from our artisan suppliers who share our commitment to quality and sustainability. Get inspiration from our Haiti and Dalit cookbooks and find ingredients to make you feel good that taste great such as Zaytoun olive oil from Palestine, Tropical Wholefoods solar dried bananas and mangoes from Uganda, and Steenbergs range of Fairtrade herbs and spices. We look into each supply chain- from production to arrival in our shop.
Fashion+Accessories
We stock some of the world’s leading stylish and sustainable brands, such as People Tree and Braintree; as well as less familiar but equally exciting smaller suppliers such as Nila Rubia, Komodo, and Mudd and Water. These cutting edge designer-makers put sustainability at the forefront of everything they create. To complement the clothing is a fabulous range of jewellery, scarves , bags, bamboo socks, and the unique 7 Virtues perfume range produced from essential oils that offer farming communities in Afghanistan, Rwanda, Haiti, and the Middle East an alternative to crime and conflict.
Home + Gift
We support local craftspeople and upcyclers as well as co-operatives and small producers around the world. Products include glassware, aprons, candles, baskets, and toys that are functional, stylish , and sustainable. Suppliers range from Dalit communities in India, local artists and weavers, to street children in Mexico collecting used bottles that go to create distinctive handmade glassware. To complement your gift we offer a wide range of cards on recycled paper designed by local artists together with luxury wrapping paper from natural materials produced by artisans in Nepal.
