Normally use this to buy and sell a few bits as I house quite a large collection and often trade sell bits to fund other purchases I want (from cex) Had a minor issue really with one item where no one was really at fault but was an oversight and misunderstanding more than anything else, something was not Made clear on the phone and if so would have altered my decision to sell it. The guy dealing was really cool and could see point of view and why the misunderstanding occurred as there was a couple of similar listings on the website and I was looking at one version but they priced off the other due to a minor difference in the description but he passed on to his manager to review and make a decision on whether I could get the product back what I traded in. I thought she would just be like ‘ah yeah sorry about that we can offer you to have it back and just amend the voucher amount for you’ But she was very abrupt and dismissive really and just said because I approved it over the phone (without me knowing the value until I received the email with the value on it - my fault for not specifying exactly how much it would be) they can’t do anything about it and need to go through head office. (Even though I was later advised by a friend who works in a cex down south that she could have just given me item back and reprint the voucher but likely just wanted to keep the product as they got it cheap) Left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth and the worst part was she just walked off without really saying thanks or sorry about misunderstanding etc. (Lack of soft skills potentially) I wasn’t rude or aggressive or annoyed even, was just querying it and trying to understand what had happened for future reference. There was not compromise though and just a brick wall so I’ve lost faith that if a real issue came up for a larger amount then I would not get anywhere with it. I understand you may get a lot of idiots or difficult customers but I’m just a normal genuine buyer and seller but now I feel I won’t really be able to use this store anymore and will just go the other one in town or into white rose. If any cex now as might just stick to selling online. Aside from that generally the store is ok, had no real issues and the staff are generally nice and cheerful which is nice to see.

The bad reviews make sense. The staff are polite enough, especially the lady who served me. No complaints there. My issue is with whatever “testing” they claim to be doing on GPUs. I usually sell to CEX because it’s a simple process. So I decided to offload my GPU. And here’s the thing, I know the GPU is working perfectly. I benchmarked it. I stress tested it. I monitored the temps. Everything checked out, exactly what you'd expect from this card. Then I get a call saying the GPU was “giving off so much heat, they could feel it from a few feet away.” Dramatic, right? A few things that anyone with half a clue would understand… It was one of the hottest days of the year, and the shop felt like a sauna with a single fan trying its best. Of course, on an open-air test rig, the card’s gonna run hotter. That’s not news, it’s physics. But I’m sure my GPU isn’t the first one they’ve ever tested during hot weather. So yeah, let’s pretend heatwaves are some shocking new phenomenon and move on to my next point. The RTX 2070 Turbo is a single-fan design. These are known to run hotter. I ran an extreme 1080p benchmark, and it hit 79.3°C according to HWiNFO, which is actually less than what’s typical under load. These cards are built to handle 80+ easily. They don’t even think about throttling until they’re baking in the 90s constantly. As I’m writing this, the card is averaging 43.8°C and sitting at a nice, calm 37.1°C. So yeah, nothing wrong with the card. When I went to collect it, I told the guy I was surprised it failed. He agreed and said it wasn’t him, it was his colleague who flagged the temp and refused it. He even mentioned their testing kit is ancient compared to what other stores use. Great, love that consistency across the brand. Very confidence-inspiring. Of course, that doesn’t get my wasted time back, does it? Reminds me of the time I brought an SSD to CEX Wakefield. One store said it was faulty. The other store across the road said it was fine. Professionalism at its peak. Going forward, I’ll either send my stuff in online or just sell it elsewhere. It’s a shame because the staff themselves are alright. I just think the brand’s testing process is becoming laughably inconsistent, and honestly, kind of embarrassing.

Very bad service. Won’t be entering a CEX premises again. Very unhappy with experience. Wasted a full hour of my valuable time to test something that didn’t need testing then invented a non existent item that wasn’t in the box to try and buy it cheaper. Appalling. Avoid this shambolic company.
