Hello! First off I thought the room was very spacious and the bed was comfy (which is the most important thing). I think there was a few surrounding things that made us unlikely to return. - I paid for a double room as a single person, and when I added my husband onto the booking, I wasn't made aware of an extra charge. I was a bit stunned to get to check in and have to pay an extra £30 - had this been communicated prior, I would have sought alternative places as it became the most expensive out of the options I had. - The bathtub looked great however when I went to have a bath - the little jacuzzi jets were a state! I didn't need them on but sitting in the bath with half of them having the covers off or slightly wonky made it uncomfortable. - There was an old blood stain on the bottom sheet - we realized too late into the night as past 11pm there's no-one on site. And whilst we were given an emergency number, that didn't feel like an emergency. - The heating system (I think) made a constant clicking sound all night. :( Overall we slept well but I don't think we would return.
Dear Manager, I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent stay at your establishment, which was extremely disappointing and fell well below reasonable expectations. At breakfast, I ordered avocado, specifically requesting it without chilli. Despite this, I was served a pre-prepared spread with a strong chilli taste and still some pieces of chilli present. When I requested a croissant instead, I was told I would need to pay an additional £6.95. Additionally, the bacon served was inedible, tasting as though it had been cooked on a dirty grill with old oil. Breakfast service in general was very poor. On one morning coffee was unavailable because the machine had not been cleaned, and at 8:30 a.m. a staff member told us she had not yet filled the fruit juice. This is simply not acceptable at that time of the morning. Dinner service was also unacceptable. Meals regularly took 1½ to 2 hours to arrive, and on one evening desserts we ordered were never served. The service was chaotic, and staff appeared unsure of their responsibilities. On top of these issues, my room (Room 9) had no hot water from Thursday check-in until Saturday afternoon, despite multiple complaints. Hot running water is a basic and essential facility, and I consider its absence to be a breach of contract. My sleep was also disturbed due to a noisy guest shouting and playing their TV at an unreasonably high volume in the early hours. To his credit, John from housekeeping dealt with this promptly and efficiently. I would like to add that John, Maria, and the lady with red hair were fantastic throughout my stay — helpful, polite, and professional despite the circumstances.
We thought we’d give it a try as we had received 40% discount vouchers. After waiting over 45 minutes and chasing our meal it finally arrived cold and unappetising. The fries were replaced but after the first two mouthfuls I realised the rest of my food was lukewarm. I was so hungry after our wait I ate what I could. The flat bread however beat me as it was as if it had come out of the fridge. I mentioned this to a young member of the team who went to have a word with the chef. After which his response was “don’t know what happened but I’m really sorry.” I think the chef may have given him an earful for passing on my comments. I actually felt sorry for him despite being very annoyed and disappointed. After handing in our voucher for the 40% reduction our bill was just under £50.00 for 2 flatbreads and a bottle of wine. Even with the discount it was very poor to say the least. I have complained to Marsdens’s previously regarding the Wheatsheaf in Kirk Ella. It seems to be as theme here as both establishment serve the same rubbish food and couldn’t care less.
Excellent - lovely pub, huge room which was tastefully decorated. Staff friendly and attentive. Excellent value for money and allow dogs too. We will definitely be coming back.
A dog friendly establishment. Food is very good but a bit pricey. But enjoyed it. No car park as such but parking closed by
