Picture this: you’re settled on the sofa, the big match is about to start, and you’ve got a perfectly chilled drink in hand. It’s a classic combination, right? Well, one clever brewery in the Yorkshire Wolds has decided to take that perfect pairing to a whole new level for 2026. Wold Top Brewery is rolling out a whole year’s worth of special beers, with each one created as a celebration of the massive sporting events filling up the calendar. It’s a brilliant idea that brings together the love of the game and the love of a good pint.

A year of sport in a can (and cask)

Let's be honest, 2026 is shaping up to be a massive year for sport. From the snowy slopes of the Winter Olympics to the roar of the World Cup stadiums, there’s something for everyone. And now, there’s a beer for (almost) every occasion, too. The team at Wold Top, a farm-based brewery in Wold Newton, has announced a series of monthly, limited edition beers dedicated to these iconic sporting events. This isn't just a random gimmick; it's a genuine celebration of sport from a brewery that’s deeply involved in its local community.

This special collection of seasonal beers will be themed around everything from the Six Nations rugby and the Commonwealth Games to the prestigious Masters golf tournament. The entire range is a nod to the thrill of the competition and the joy of watching it all unfold. This Yorkshire brewery has really thought about how to capture the spirit of these moments in its unique beers.

Hannah Hatfield, who works in marketing at Wold Top, explained the thinking behind the new range. She said, “As keen supporters of grassroots sport in the region, we decided to celebrate such an amazing year of sporting events with some new and different beers.”

What's on tap? a taste of the action

So, what can people actually expect from these new creations? The range is incredibly varied, with a different style for each month and each event. For example, to mark the Winter Olympics in Italy, there’s a golden beer called Bluebird Day. When the Six Nations rugby kicks off, fans can enjoy an English IPA named Drop Goal. And for the golf lovers glued to the Masters, there's a citrus, hoppy ale called The Bunker. This thoughtful approach shows a real passion for both brewing and sport. The brewery uses its own home-grown barley and fresh water from a borehole on the farm, which gives their beers a distinct Yorkshire character.

The collection continues throughout the year, with a tropical session IPA called Full Time for the FIFA World Cup and a floral ale named Final Sprint for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The brewery is also marking a ten-year sponsorship milestone with its own race team. This celebration will be marked with a sparkling, crisp ale called Hello Velo.

Hannah Hatfield added more detail: “Our limited edition beers include golden beer, Bluebird Day, in celebration of the Winter Olympics in Italy; English IPA, Drop Goal for the Six Nations rugby; citrus, hoppy ale, The Bunker for the golf Masters; tropical session IPA, Full Time for the FIFA World Cup, and floral ale, Final Sprint to celebrate the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In May, we celebrate our 10 year association with the semi-professional Wold Top Pactimo race team and the annual staging of the Sundown 60 sportive with sparkling, crisp ale, Hello Velo.”

What's even better is how accessible these special beers are. Hannah confirmed, “All the seasonal beers are gluten free and canned and kegged formats are suitable for vegans. They will be available in casks for people to enjoy while watching sport in the pub, or cans for at-home viewing.” This means whether you’re out with mates or having a night in, you can get in on the action. The beers being gluten free is a fantastic touch, opening them up for more people to enjoy the celebration.

More than just great beers

This whole project makes perfect sense when you look at the brewery’s history. Wold Top Brewery isn’t just jumping on the sports bandwagon; they live and breathe it. Their commitment to grassroots sport is clear through their long-standing community initiatives. They have an ongoing sponsorship of the Wold Top Pactimo semi-professional race team, which is a significant commitment. But it doesn’t stop there. The brewery also supports numerous local clubs, showing a real dedication to the community in the Yorkshire Wolds.

Their community initiatives include sponsoring Scarborough cricket club, Bridlington Road Runners, Active Filey, and both the Driffield and Bridlington Rugby Clubs. They even host their own annual Wold Top All Terrain run. It’s this deep connection to sport that makes their new range of sporting beers feel so genuine and exciting. They’re not just a business; they’re part of the local sporting fabric.

A proper Yorkshire brewery

Founded back in 2003, Wold Top Brewery is a family affair, located on the Mellor family farm near Filey. This setting isn't just for show; it’s fundamental to how they make their beer. The team uses home-grown barley from their own fields and pure, chalk-filtered water from the farm's own borehole. You can’t get much more local than that. This hands-on approach is what gives their range of cask, keg, canned, and bottled beers such a unique and authentic taste. While they are proudly from Yorkshire, their reputation has grown far beyond the county, with their beers now available across the nation. This new collection of seasonal beers is another fantastic chapter in their story, perfectly blending their passion for quality brewing with a true love for sport.
