Lowther House - The Enchanting Woodland Cafe
The lovely riverside country garden is a haven of tranquility, during the summer months people can picnic under the apple trees, dogs can splash in the beck, and everyone can relax under a parasol watching the steam trains of the NYMR puffing by.
In the winter months, the ‘Den’ is open five days a week. Tea, coffee, pastries and snacks are available as well as lunches, with extra-special lunches being served on Sundays. Menus include breakfast, lunch and dinner items, from ciabattas to chillis, to crostini, and bacon butties!
Our food can be quite eclectic, reflecting our taste for unusual dishes from around the world, on any one day there may be Mexican, Texan, Italian dishes available, as well as comfy British favourites.
Sunday Lunches are really something - traditional fare, but with a distinctive twist! Please take a look at the monthly Sunday menus as well as the weekday one.
The garden deck area will be open with umbrellas all winter to accommodate hardy hikers, bikers and dog walkers too!
ABOUT LOWTHER HOUSE
Set at the end of a two hundred metre drive in a clearing in Pickering Woods, Lowther House is a million miles from city living, yet is just a ten minute stroll down a tree-lined avenue into Pickering Town Centre.
A few hundred metres away runs one of the world's first railways - now over 175 years old, the Pickering to Whitby Line, today part of the North York's Moors Steam Heritage Railway.
The house sits between the North York Moors National Park - which you can walk into from our gate, it's all of 300 metres! - and the Yorkshire Wolds to the south, making it the perfect location for exploring some of the most spectacular scenery in all of England.
Please feel free to wander in our lovely gardens – we can lend you a net so you can try fishing for Brown Trout, if you catch a big enough one we can cook it for you, but mostly they're tiny and you have to throw them back!
