St George's Field Car Park

Can’t believe the price has gone up so much since 2019, more than double. We all think it’s the best car park near the city centre. It’s very close to Cliff Tower, and 5 -10 minutes walk by the river Ouse to city centre. Lovely river view. There are some ticket machines in this car park, there is only one accept card payment which is the one by the car park entrance, or use App Paybyphone with extra service charge.

£25 for the day parking with rubbish toilets. It is quite close to the centre though, like Shambles street and market. I wouldn't recommend parking here if the canal is high, when it over flows this car park gets it. Trying to be fair, I do believe it is now very expensive to park in York so this is probably the going rate.

Avoid if you can. I had to park a work vehicle here to do a job nearby so using the park and ride was out of the question. The cost to park here is just silly. I can claim it back on expenses but for the average visitor you will need to remortgage your house. Add to that the 40p charge (card payment only) to use the toilets that are in absolutely rank condition (filthy floor and walls, toilet bowl and toilet seat soiled, hand wash unit not working, toilet roll holder damaged) and you will regret your visit. I nearly took a photo of the toilet but thought better of it as it would turn your stomach. There is now a pay machine nearest the vehicle entrance for paying by credit card but all the other machines are coin payment or app payment only; there are no signs saying where the card payment machine is but try this what3words location ///wipes.enable.fish

How many people still carry cash with them? Hardly anyone I know, that's for sure. I do - but mainly notes. Yet this car park charges £4 for evening parking and doesn't even take cards! The only other way to pay is by PayByPhone, which then charges an additional "convenience charge"! That's if you get the app to work at all: I had to spend some considerable time logging in, updating the app, logging in again, setting my phone number, setting it again because it suddenly decided I was in the States... Too much palaver! Accept credit/debit cards for no extra cost and it would be a five-star experience.

Used this carpark numerous times over the years, always thought it’s expensive to park here or anywhere in York to be fair but £12.55 for four hours is ridiculous now!! And the carpark is not in great condition all be its in better condition than Cliffords Tower!! No wonder shops and restaurants are struggling.
