Quirky Doodle Ceramics is a home based ceramics business, owned and run by the quirky Katie. Each piece of ceramics is one of a kind as are hand sculpted without moulds, each detail is designed and sketched out first before clay is even touched.

Story behind quirky doodle ceramics.

I have many qualifications in art and design, from BTEC nationals to a Degree in Graphic Design.

When I was at collage studying art and design, I had two favourite subjects, they were Graphic Design and Ceramics.

I choose to go down the Graphic Design route for a degree as I thought thats what I loved more, turns out I was wrong.

Fast forward 10 years, 2 kids and a marriage and we hit lockdown 2020! I found out that I had Thyroid cancer in the February before the world shut down for 8 months. I didn't know for certain if I still had cancer or if they had got it all in the February, so there was a lot of time in lockdown to sit and think about all the what ifs.

I needed something to take my mind off them what ifs and I found clay again, now it was air dry clay to begin with but I knew it was the best decision for me during this time.

I could lose myself in sculpting and let my mind wander into the quirky world that my creations come from. I soon realised that I still loved clay as much as I did back in collage, so I started slowly getting my skills back up as 10 years is a long time not to touch a piece of clay.

It didn't take long before I knew that this is what I wanted to do, and after a very nice investment by my auntie and uncle, I was able to get my tiny baby little kiln in 2022. So that meant I could move from air dry to ceramic. I still use that same kiln now and I still love it as much as I did back then.

4 years later I am cancer free and still loving that I found clay during that really difficult time of lockdown, 2 kids and cancer.
