About Yorkshire National Garden Scheme

Description

If you love gardens and gardening, the National Garden Scheme in Yorkshire gives you unique access to many of the county’s best gardens, offering  a relaxing and memorable day out for the cost of a cup of tea and slice of cake.

Our teams of volunteers help garden owners open their beautiful gardens, sharing their passion and raising impressive amounts of money through entry fees, teas and slices of cake.

2017 is our 90th Anniversary year and we are very excited to offer 163 open days in more than 120 locations across Yorkshire.  Gardens open individually or as part of a group. Many only open for one day, but some more often.  And although most open during the day, some open on summer evenings, when you can wander around gorgeous surroundings with a glass of wine. Your dog is also very welcome in more than half of them  - on a lead of course!

Our gardens range from impressive stately homes to intimate cottage gardens and include a few exceptional schools, nurseries and allotments.  Most are privately owned, so aren’t usually accessible to the public. Almost all offer a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of homemade cake.  You’ll often be able to buy some great value home grown or specialist nursery plants on the day, but arrive early - these plants are always very popular!

Events will be listed here on Yorkshire.com, but you can also find details of all our gardens in England and Wales on our website: www.ngs.org.uk  or via Twitter and Facebook.

Groups Are Welcome!

More than 60 of our Yorkshire gardens also open by arrangement, so you can visit at a time to suit you.  Lots of photography, art and gardening groups enjoy private visits as part of their annual programme of events. Who We Support

We are the most significant charitable funder of nursing charities in the country, donating over £50 million since 1927. Thanks to the hard work of our brilliant garden owners and volunteers, last year Yorkshire raised a record £180,000+ and an amazing £2.7million was donated to our beneficiaries nationally.

Our beneficiary charities are: The Queen’s Nursing Institute, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Carers Trust, Hospice UK, Perennial, Parkinson’s UK, MS Society  and National Autistic Society.

Individual gardens have also given more than £4 million in small donations directly to local charities of their choice.

By visiting one of our gardens, you will help support these charities - so take a look at what we have on offer.
