Switchgear Engineer
<p>Futures recruitment are looking to appoint and experienced Switchgear Engineer to join an established UK engineering and manufacturing business.</p> <p>This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased engineer with experience in LV switchgear, switchboards, control panels or associated electrical equipment to join a growing engineering team.</p> <p>The role will give you responsibility across the full engineering lifecycle, from reviewing customer specifications and developing electrical designs through to supporting manufacture, testing and final delivery.</p> <p>As a Switchgear Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing technically compliant and practical switchgear solutions while working closely with customers, project teams, production, procurement and suppliers.</p> <p>Key responsibilities will include:</p> <ul> <li>Reviewing customer specifications, technical schedules and project requirements.</li><li>Designing and engineering LV switchgear, switchboards and associated electrical equipment.</li><li>Producing and reviewing single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and general arrangement drawings.</li><li>Selecting appropriate electrical components, including ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, contactors, CTs, metering equipment and protection devices.</li><li>Supporting busbar sizing, fault-level requirements, short-circuit withstand and equipment ratings.</li><li>Producing bills of materials and maintaining accurate technical documentation.</li><li>Ensuring designs are practical, safe and suitable for manufacture.</li><li>Providing technical support to production and assembly teams throughout the build process.</li><li>Investigating and resolving engineering issues identified during manufacture or testing.</li><li>Liaising with customers and suppliers to resolve technical queries and agree design requirements.</li><li>Supporting inspection, testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).</li><li>Ensuring designs meet relevant electrical standards and internal quality requirements.</li><li>Identifying opportunities to improve existing designs, standardise products and improve manufacturing efficiency.</li></ul> <p>What We're Looking For</p> <ul> <li>An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.</li><li>Previous experience designing or engineering LV switchgear or switchboards.</li><li>Strong electrical design and engineering knowledge.</li><li>Experience reading and producing electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.</li><li>Knowledge of ACBs, MCCBs, busbars, CTs, metering and protection equipment.</li><li>An understanding of short-circuit ratings, fault levels and protection principles.</li><li>Knowledge of BS EN / IEC 61439 or similar relevant standards.</li><li>Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar design software.</li><li>Experience supporting equipment through manufacture and testing.</li><li>Strong fault-finding and technical problem-solving skills.</li><li>The ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and manufacturing teams.</li></ul>
