Dean Clough in Halifax is making waves in the world of wellness with exciting new deals aimed at improving work-life balance for its more than 3,500 employees. This vibrant destination is not only a hub for businesses but is also expanding its offerings to include a variety of wellness and leisure activities, creating a balanced environment for both work and relaxation.

New Wellness Offerings

The recent expansion at Dean Clough sees retail, leisure, wellness, and cultural experiences now making up about 22% of the total space available. This modern approach supports the main office and workspace areas that span approximately 468,000 square feet of Grade A workspace. The mix of amenities aligns with a global benchmark for what makes a competitive destination, ensuring that the remaining 78% of the space is complemented by valuable facilities.

One of the most notable additions is Elethea Studios Pilates, which has opened a new 2,418 square foot studio in the historic Fire Station at Dean Clough. This studio is the sixth location for Elethea, joining others in cities like Leeds, York, and Hull. Elethea Studios is unique because it offers a wide range of classes, including:

  • Reformer Pilates

  • Hot Pilates

  • Hot Sculpt

  • Specialist classes tailored for various abilities

Holly Puddephatt, the founder of Elethea Studios, expressed excitement about the new location:

“Our proposition is much more than Pilates classes. We’re creating a welcoming wellness community centred around exceptional teaching, beautifully designed studios and an inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable, regardless of experience.”

Community and Quality

Puddephatt also noted that Halifax has a growing audience that values health and wellbeing. She identified a gap in the market for a high-quality boutique Pilates studio, making Dean Clough an ideal location due to its strong sense of community and reputation for quality. “Its heritage, character and beautifully restored buildings align closely with the Elethea brand,” she stated.

In addition to Elethea Studios, Dean Clough has welcomed Belief Coding, which has taken a 3,204 square foot suite to serve as its UK training headquarters. This innovative practice combines psychology, neuroscience, and somatic methods to help individuals reprogram self-limiting beliefs. It will host training days, workshops, and courses, further enhancing the wellness offerings available at Dean Clough.

Diverse Wellness Options

Other recent additions to the wellness scene at Dean Clough include:

  • Storey’s by Dawn Walsh, which has expanded its hair salon services to include a Japanese head spa, focusing on relaxation and overall wellbeing.

  • Foot Formula, an award-winning podiatry and physiotherapy practice, has broadened its range of services.

  • Jim-nas-tiks, which has extended its gymnastics club to include new adult classes.

Now, Dean Clough boasts a diverse range of wellness facilities, including four hair salons, four counselling practices, and various providers for nails, beauty, aesthetics, physiotherapy, strength training, massage therapy, and even an ice bath and sauna experience. This variety ensures that everyone can find something that suits their wellness needs.

A Thriving Community

Chairman and Managing Director Jeremy Hall shared his enthusiasm for the new wellness providers, saying:

“It’s wonderful to welcome these fantastic wellness providers to Dean Clough. The incorporation of such provisions is a fabulous addition to the community here; it keeps pace with ever-evolving workplace and visitor expectations.”

He emphasised the importance of having a holistic mix of services that brings vibrancy to the area and attracts a diverse range of visitors.

Dean Clough is already home to around 150 businesses, employing over 3,000 people, making it a bustling community hub. The site not only offers Grade A office spaces but also features six free-to-attend art galleries and a theatre, ensuring a rich cultural offering. Flexible workspaces are available in renovated buildings that maintain their unique character, while the public areas are designed to engage visitors with various installations.

Accessibility and Location

Located on the edge of Halifax town centre, Dean Clough is easily accessible, situated between Leeds and Manchester and just 15 minutes from the M62. Direct train links to major cities like Leeds, Manchester, York, and London make it a convenient destination for both local residents and visitors.

The ongoing investment in Dean Clough has transformed it into a significant success story for Halifax and the wider Leeds City Region. Over the past 40 years, tens of millions have been invested in the redevelopment of this historic site, originally built between 1840 and 1870.
