|On 4 September 2026, Hull KR secured a spot in the Super League play-offs with an impressive 36-6 victory over the Huddersfield Giants. The excitement didn’t stop there, as fans also enjoyed a unique match-day experience in the stadium fan zone, where they could test their hearing and vision. This interactive event was part of the 'Hear the Roar, See the Score' campaign, run by Specsavers, the club's Official Eye and Ear Care Partner. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting hearing and maintaining clear vision, especially during live sporting events.
Interactive Experience for Fans
As fans arrived at the stadium, they were greeted with two engaging activities designed to challenge their senses. The first challenge involved identifying a mystery sound, where quick participants had the chance to win signed Hull KR merchandise, including shirts and balls. Each participant received a pair of branded ear plugs to help protect their hearing during the match. Among these ear plugs was a special custom red pair that granted one lucky fan a meet-and-greet with the Hull KR players.

The second activity offered fans the opportunity to wear visual impairment glasses while trying to spot differences in images. This experience highlighted how changes to vision can affect daily life, making it a thought-provoking activity for all involved. More signed merchandise was available as prizes, along with branded glasses cleaning cloths to encourage proper eye care.
Supporting Community Health
Laura George, the chief operating officer at Hull KR, expressed her enthusiasm for the event:
“Our fans are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re always looking for new ways to make match days even more memorable. We’re proud to continue our partnership with Specsavers for the second year running and to support a campaign that combines fun with an important message around looking after your hearing and vision.”
“Being able to hear the excitement and see every moment of the action clearly makes such a difference to the match day experience, so it was fantastic to see so many fans getting involved and enjoying the activities.”
Expert Support from Specsavers
Specsavers had a dedicated team on-site to answer questions about eye and ear health. They also provided on-the-spot hearing screenings and helped fans book future appointments for eye and hearing care.
David Proudfoot, the store director for the three Specsavers locations in Hull, highlighted the importance of match days:
“Match days are all about the atmosphere, from the roar of the crowd to seeing the action on the pitch unfold. It was brilliant to be among the fans and encourage them to think about their eyes and ears in a fun and engaging way.”
Proudfoot also noted the simple steps fans can take to protect their hearing and vision, like wearing ear plugs in loud environments and scheduling regular check-ups. “Our role is to help them enjoy the game in the best way possible,” he added.
Community Engagement and Future Initiatives
The collaboration between Hull KR and Specsavers reflects both organisations' commitment to community engagement and positive change. This partnership not only encourages fans to think about their health but also strengthens the bond between the club and its supporters. By integrating health awareness into the excitement of match days, both Hull KR and Specsavers aim to foster a culture of well-being among fans.
