The Beta Band Opens the Night

Opening the show was The Beta Band, a band recently reunited and known for their unique blend of folk, psychedelia, and trip-hop. The Fife-formed quartet kicked off their set with the song Memory Of A Free Festival, setting an upbeat tone for the evening. Fans were treated to a collection of their beloved tracks, including Inner Meet Me, She’s The One, and Squares, before wrapping up their performance with The House Song. This set not only showcased their musical talent but also reminded the audience of their rich history in the music scene.

The Flaming Lips Dazzle the Crowd

Following The Beta Band, The Flaming Lips took the stage, bringing their renowned stage show to the historic venue. Celebrated by Q Magazine as one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die," they did not disappoint. Frontman Wayne Coyne expressed his excitement about performing in such a remarkable venue, referring to it as an "amazing like gladiators' space." He shared a heartfelt moment, saying, “We as The Flaming Lips have been to almost every cool place in the entire world and we’ve never been here. Thank you for having us.” His warm connection with the audience created an inviting atmosphere.

The band launched into their set with The Stars Are So Big, followed by the fan-favourite Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. They closed their main set with Do You Realize??, a poignant piece that resonates deeply with listeners. The encore was equally exciting, featuring a cover of Black Sabbath’s War Pigs and concluding with Race For The Prize, leaving the audience buzzing with energy.

The concert on July 23 was just a part of the extensive summer season at The Piece Hall. The venue has a packed schedule with a total of 42 shows lined up. Upcoming performances include Tom Jones on July 25 and Tom Grennan on July 26, promising more unforgettable nights for music lovers in Halifax and beyond.
