About the Show

Rita, Sue and Bob Too! is based on the 1987 film written by Andrea Dunbar. This hilarious yet gritty tale follows two working-class girls, Rita and Sue, as they navigate life and relationships while babysitting for a married couple, Bob and Michelle. The story takes a dramatic twist when Bob starts an affair with both girls, leading to a mix of comedy and deeper themes of love and friendship.

The production is known for its witty script and the inclusion of popular 80s music, making it a delightful experience for audiences of all ages.

Director Chantelle Joseph expressed excitement about the return of the show, noting the fantastic response from audiences during the last tour:

“We’ve had a fabulous reaction to news that Rita, Sue and Bob Too! is going back out on the road for a second UK tour.”

“And I’m really delighted that Jake Quickenden has agreed to return in the role of Bob.”

Jake Quickenden's Return

Quickenden, who gained fame as a contestant on The X Factor and later as a runner-up on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, has become a familiar face on British television. He has appeared in numerous shows, including Celebrity Masterchef and Dancing on Ice, where he won in 2018.

Reflecting on his experience from the previous tour, Quickenden shared:

“I had such a great time when we toured with Rita, Sue and Bob Too! last year – audiences up and down the country were so enthusiastic. There’s a really warm family atmosphere among the Regal Entertainments team.”

“Andrea Dunbar’s writing is brilliant, and the story of Rita, Sue and Bob is very funny but with a darker underside which dramatically really appeals to me. I can’t wait to get back on the road now as Bob.”

Audience Reception

The initial tour of Rita, Sue and Bob Too! received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, with many praising its blend of humour and poignant moments. Theatregoers described it as “a fabulous story” and “very funny from start to finish.”

As the excitement builds for the 2027 tour, anticipation is high for another round of laughter and heartfelt moments. The production promises to be a memorable experience, perfect for both long-time fans of the story and newcomers alike.
