•Northern Ballet is set to bring a new adventure to life with its upcoming production of Robin Hood, a ballet specially created for children. This exciting performance will kick off a national tour in spring 2027, starting at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds in February 2027. This new ballet promises to be a delightful experience for young audiences, combining the magic of storytelling with the elegance of ballet.
Storyline of Robin Hood
Robin Hood tells the tale of the famous outlaw and his companion Maid Marian as they attempt to outsmart the greedy Sheriff of Nottingham. This enchanting story highlights themes of friendship, bravery, and the importance of standing up for what is right. Throughout their journey, Robin and Marian face various challenges, demonstrating that kindness and determination can be just as powerful as physical strength. The ballet is designed to resonate with children, encouraging them to understand the value of teamwork and courage.
A Special Production for Young Audiences
This vibrant and engaging ballet is approximately 40 minutes long, making it an ideal introduction to the world of live performance for younger viewers. The production features lively choreography by Northern Ballet Soloist Heather Lehan, who has previously created works for Northern Ballet’s Sketches programme and the Academy of Northern Ballet. Lehan expressed her excitement about this project, stating:
“Drawing on traditional folk music and medieval influences, we're creating a production that feels adventurous, whimsical, and full of heart. It's a privilege to be given both the opportunity and the creative freedom by my director, Federico Bonelli, and to collaborate with such a talented team to bring this timeless legend to life.”

The tour will conclude with a performance at Sadler’s Wells East in London. This extensive schedule allows many families to experience the joy of ballet and storytelling close to home.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
All venues hosting Robin Hood will offer Relaxed Performances, designed to create a comfortable environment for audience members who may find traditional theatre settings challenging. This includes those with sensory sensitivities, communication difficulties, or learning disabilities. Additionally, select venues will provide Audio Described Performances, narrated by former Premier Dancer Pippa Moore MBE, ensuring that blind or visually impaired audience members can enjoy the performance as well.
A Legacy of Children's Ballet
Northern Ballet has a rich history of creating award-winning ballets for children, having previously produced well-loved adaptations such as Little Red Riding Hood, Tortoise & the Hare, and Ugly Duckling. Many of these productions have not only toured theatres but have also been shown in cinemas and adapted into BAFTA-winning television programmes for CBeebies.
