Mick Morgan's Commentary to Feature in Xscape Yorkshire Lifts for Yorkshire Day 2026

Welcome to Yorkshire

Published on July 30th, 2026

In an exciting twist for rugby fans and locals alike, the famous commentary of Mick Morgan will soon echo through the lifts at Xscape Yorkshire in Castleford. This unique audio experience is set to launch just in time for Yorkshire Day on 1 August, a celebration of the county's rich culture and heritage.

Mick Morgan's Legendary Commentary

Mick Morgan, a former player for the Castleford Tigers and a well-known commentator, is the voice behind one of the most iconic moments in rugby league history. His commentary during the 1994 Cup Final has been described as "the most famous and most quoted in history." This legendary piece of commentary includes memorable phrases like "I can't spake" and "Get 'em walkin'," which have since become part of rugby folklore.

To honour this legacy, the audio in the lifts at Xscape Yorkshire will be updated to include snippets of Morgan’s famous commentary. For example, instead of the usual "Ground floor," visitors will now hear "Ground floor, I can't spake," adding a touch of humour and local charm to their lift journey.

Other phrases include:

  • Ground Floor: "I can't spake"

  • Doors Opening: "It's the best lift in the world, never mind anybody else"

  • Doors Closing: "They don’t like it"

  • First Floor: "Get 'em walkin'"

  • Doors Opening: "Come on Cas, rub it in"

Celebrating Yorkshire Day

The timing of this lift announcement launch is particularly special as it coincides with Yorkshire Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the unique identity and contributions of Yorkshire. As part of the celebration, Xscape Yorkshire will host an event where Mick Morgan will officially unveil the new lift audio. The festivities will take place on 1 August, which also happens to be an exciting match day for the Castleford Tigers, who will be facing the Warrington Wolves.

Jason Warren, Centre Director at Xscape Yorkshire, expressed his enthusiasm for the new lift voiceover:

"Yorkshire Day is all about celebrating what makes this county special, and for the people of Castleford, you won't find anyone more special than Mick Morgan."

He hopes that the lift announcements will bring joy to visitors and honour Morgan's legacy in a fun and engaging way.

Limited-Edition Scarves

In addition to the lift announcement, Xscape Yorkshire will also be giving away 50 limited-edition "I can’t spake" scarves on Yorkshire Day. These scarves will be available for free between 11 am and 4 pm, allowing visitors to take home a piece of this memorable celebration.

A Unique Experience

Alongside the lift audio, the interior of Xscape Yorkshire already features a stunning mural by Leeds artist Nicolas Dixon, titled Everything in its Right Place. This vibrant artwork celebrates local landmarks and heroes, further enriching the cultural experience at the venue. By integrating Mick Morgan's iconic voice into the lift experience, Xscape Yorkshire continues to showcase the character and personality that make Yorkshire unique.

Mick Morgan himself shared his thoughts on becoming the voice of a lift:

"I've commentated on plenty over the years, but I never thought I'd end up being the voice of a lift! It's a bit of fun for Yorkshire Day, and if it gets people smiling while they're going between floors then that’s good with me."

His playful spirit is sure to resonate with visitors, making their lift rides memorable.
