This summer, young musicians in Leeds have an exciting opportunity to live out their rock star dreams at Rock School UK. Running from the week commencing 27th July for five consecutive weeks, this programme invites children aged 9 to 16 to experience what it’s like to be in a real band. Over the course of six action-packed days, participants will work closely with professional musicians, learning popular songs, writing original music, and recording it in a professional studio. The week will culminate in a live performance at The Wardrobe, a well-known music venue in the city.

What to Expect

Rock School UK is designed for young musicians of all abilities. Whether a child is picking up an instrument for the first time or is an experienced player looking to enhance their skills, there’s something for everyone. The programme is structured to ensure that each participant can learn at their own pace while collaborating with others who share a passion for music.

  • Age Group: 9–16 years old

  • Duration: Six days per course, Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm

  • Location: Eiger Studios and The Rock & Roll Circus Studios in Leeds

  • Finale Gig: Each Saturday at The Wardrobe

During the week, participants will form bands, learn their favourite cover songs, and even have the chance to write and record their own original tracks. This hands-on experience not only helps develop musical talents but also boosts confidence and fosters friendships among like-minded peers.

Meet the Team

Rock School UK is led by Isaac Heywood, a seasoned musician with over 30 years of experience. He has toured with famous artists such as Meatloaf and Corinne Bailey Rae. Isaac emphasises the transformative journey that participants undergo during the course. “The transformation we see in the children through the week is amazing,” he shares. “Not only do their playing and performing abilities improve, but their confidence is really boosted. Along with being educational, it’s a great place to make new friends and have fun.”

A positive force

This initiative is not just about music; it’s about providing a supportive environment where young people can express themselves creatively. Rock School UK has been running these courses for 18 years and has positively impacted thousands of young musicians. The organisation also engages in community support, having raised over £15,000 for local charities such as Martin House Children’s Hospice and Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice since 2010.

For those interested in enrolling, the cost of the course is £250. Spaces can be reserved by visiting the Rock School UK website at www.rockschool.uk.com, emailing info@rockschool.uk.com, or calling 07539 670093.
