“Britain’s summers are famously unpredictable, but this year has been exceptionally warm, and we’re seeing a shift in holiday booking behaviour as a result.”
Many families and individuals who would typically head south for warmer climates are now travelling north to find cooler conditions. Instead of going to places like Portugal, some are choosing to visit spots like Penzance in Cornwall.
Parkdean Resorts has reported particularly strong demand for August and September at its northernmost parks across Scotland, the North West, and the North East. For instance, searches for the Grannies Heilan Hame Holiday Park in Embo have surged by 54% in just the last week. Coastal caravan holidays have also become popular, offering the chance to enjoy breezy, cooler conditions along with opportunities to swim in the sea or relax by the pool.

Reilly pointed out that although the UK is a relatively small country, there are significant differences in temperature from the northern to the southern regions. He explained, “Our data suggests that people who previously stayed within a couple of hours of home are now travelling further, particularly northwards, in search of cooler, more comfortable conditions.” This shift indicates that holidaymakers are actively seeking ways to enjoy their summer without the overwhelming heat that has become common this year.
