And so - Myself and my Wife found ourselves “out on a limb” - Christmas Day- Our two Daughters had other plans. To avoid being on our own on Christmas Day, we booked ourselves into a nearby hotel with our beloved Cindy (Cocker Spaniel). And so Christmas Day came and we arrived at the Durham Ox to a simply Fantastic Welcome - Complimentary Whiskey or Baileys. The day just got better !! Every stranger was a friend we just hadn’t met. The range and quality of drinks simply brilliant. The food “to die for” !! Jimmy - I committed to you that I would respond to the fabulous friendship and hospitality that you gave to myself and my Wife. We couldn’t wish anything other than our best wishes to you and yours. Had lunch here today and it was lovely. Two of us had mince and dumplings and two had toasties which came with chips salad and coleslaw. All served hot and excellent value. Staff really friendly and our dog was very welcome too. Thank you for a lovely lunch.
Such a friendly atmosphere walking into the pub. Everyone was very friendly, lots of laughs throughout the visit. Also the Durham ox is a dog friendly pub, and the landlady’s dog Bruce is gorgeous and also very friendly! The food is amazing and very tasty, also reasonably priced! Would definitely recommend the Durham ox to family’s and friends!
Just popped in for a quick drink but ended up having 2. The place has just been taken over , so I don't know what it was like before , but the owner's were friendly and the old local we got talking to was full of knowledge , who got on great with my partner as she went there in the 70s. Good prices give it a go if your passing , don't think they do food at the moment ... But I could be wrong.
This is purely about the parking. I like to support local businesses but I suspect the owner is being taken advantage of here. There is a CCTV to catch over parking by 1 minute. The firm will be making a fortune under the pub owner's nose. Shame.
