On 5 July 2014, the Tour de France Stage 1 passed through the town.
From the striking limestone 'shawl' to nearby Aysgarth Falls, Leyburn is best explored on foot, and the town's network of bridleways and paths are a perfect place to start. Fun-loving families should look no further than the nearby 'Forbidden Corner' or a trip on the scenic Wensleydale Railway to Redmire.
Completed in 1399 by Richard le Scrope, Chancellor of England to Richard II, its scars bear testament to over 600 years of fascinating history including involvement in the Pilgrimage of Grace, Mary Queen of Scots imprisonment and a Civil War siege so a trip to Bolton Castle is worth it for both the myriad of historical tales it can tell, but also to explore what was a major part of ITV1's recent TV show, The Dales.

The Little Chocolate Shop first made chocolates in the mill buildings at Aysgarth Fall. Due to its enormous popularity they have moved to The Leyburn Business Park and now provide a dedicated factory for the production of delicious hand-made chocolates. They are open from Monday to Saturday for you to experience the whole fascinating process and to answer all your chocolatey questions!
The Sandpiper Inn is a well-established free house. The property has a cosy bar serving real ales, a fine wine list & an enormous selection of malt whiskeys, & a stylish restaurant serving quality food with the best of local ingredient.

All the food is freshly prepared to order so you can savour the taste of the scrummy homemade scones and cakes together with lots of other savoury treats. Leyburn is in the heart of the Dales and so is therefore ideal for cycling. Constable Burton Hall is a handsome Palladian villa standing at the entrance to Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. Designed by the celebrated architect John Carr for Sir Marmaduke Wyvill, and completed in 1768, it is widely recognised as one of the finest medium-sized English houses built in the Palladian style.
The Hall stands in extensive woodland and formal gardens which are open to the public from mid-March to mid-September. Stunning seasonal displays of snowdrops and daffodils carpet the woodland walks and garden trails, making it an absolute must for garden and nature lovers alike.
